Missileworks RRC3

The Rocket Recovery Controller 3 (RRC3) is a barometric dual-deploy altimeter, with the features of high-end units, at the cost of those with a more modest feature set. In addition to basic dual-deploy capability, the RRC3 is a multi-flight recording unit, allowing you to fly all day, without the need to stop and download data in between flights. The RRC3 also provides a third, highly flexible and programmable 'Auxiliary' output which can provide staging, airstarts, backup events, and a host of other applications. The RRC3 can also support real-time data streaming capabilities in flight for telemetry or for interface with other custom control systems. Despite this unrivaled suite of intrinsic capabilities and expandability, the RRC3 still maintains its simple "buy it and fly it" operations.

Architectural Features

  • 16MHz 16-bit MSP430 Series mCU
  • 8Mbit SST Flash Memory
  • MSI MS5607 Pressure sensor Note: This high resolution altimeter sensor has a 24 bit ΔΣ ADC, with internal factory calibrated coefficients which provide a precise digital 24 bit pressure and temperature. The RRC3 design also provides a dedicated "baro-only" regulated power system and applies other noise reduction techniques to further accurize pressure data.
Operational Ranges
  • Sport Unit: 40K MSL
  • Xtreme Unit: 100K MSL Note: For high reliabilty purposes, the 'Xtreme" Altimeter replaces the standard RRC3 electrolytic brownout capacitor with a solid-dielectric type for operations in virtual vacuum and near space conditions. Electrolytic capacitors have (semi-)liquid dielectrics, which can boil off in vacuum.

m3 Component Family

LCD Terminal

$39.95
The LCDT (LCD Terminal) provides a handy way to interact with the RRC3 altimeter and future Missile Works products on the launch field. The LCDT eliminates the need to bring a laptop PC and provides immediate text and icon based displays that be used to configure, review flight data and perform diagnostics. The LCDT operates using the battery supply from the host device it's connected to.

Features
  • 16 character / 2 line, High Contrast 5x7 Reflective LCD display module
  • 4-button soft key interface with "one-click" tact switches
  • Adjustable Contrast knob
  • 2' Modular 10-pin x 2mm IDC ribbon cable assembly

USB IO

$24.95
The USB IO Dongle provides USB interface capability and data transfer between the RRC3 and a host computer. Use the USB IO with the mDACS Windows based application software to upload flight data, altimeter settings, and to perform flight simulations and detailed diagnositcs. The USB IO can also provide the necessary logic power to your RRC3 altimeter for all data transfer operations, circumventing the need for an external battery or power supply to communicate with the altimeter.

Features
  • 6' USB A to USB mini B cable assembly
  • 1' Data Cable assembly (4 x 2mm, 24 AWG)
  • Complete USB IO Dongle Assembly
  • Diagnostic TX and RX LED's

DTx Adapter

$5.95

The DTx Adapter provides the necessary cable hookup so you can use your existing DT2U or DT3U USB Data Transfer Kit with the RRC3 and your host PC. This adapter allows you to interface with the mDACS Windows based application software to upload flight data, altimeter settings, and to perform flight simulations and detailed diagnositcs.

Features
  • 1' Data Cable assembly (4 x 2mm, 24 AWG)
  • Complete DTx Adapter assembly

StratoLogger CF Altimeter

$59.95

(Mounting Hardware Included)

$24.95 USB Data Transfer Kit

$2.79 Mounting Hardware

This versatile, easy to use altimeter audibly reports your rocket's peak altitude and maximum velocity after flight via a sequence of beeps. Two outputs are provided for deploying a small chute at apogee to minimize drift and a larger chute closer to the ground to slow your rocket for a gentle touchdown. Main chute deployment altitude is adjustable from 100 feet to 9,999 feet in 1 foot increments with the computer interface or 100 foot increments without. Nine user-defined presets make changing the settings in the field quick and easy.

The StratoLogger CF collects flight data (altitude, temperature, and battery voltage) at a rate of 20 samples per second throughout the flight and stores them for later download to a computer. It retains data from the most recent 31 flights (up to 9 minutes per flight) even with power removed. The optional DT3U data transfer kit includes software for graphing and printing a wide range of characteristics including altitude, velocity, and more.

As its name implies, the StratoLogger is capable of recording flights of up to 100,000 foot altitude (well into the stratosphere) with industry-leading precision and accuracy.

Features:
  • Works to 100,000 feet MSL, audibly reports peak altitude and maximum velocity after flight.
  • Stores 31 flights of 9 minutes each (altitude, temperature, and battery voltage at 20 samples per second) for download to a computer with the optional DT3U USB interface. Data are preserved with power off.
  • Deploys drogue and main chutes with audible ematch continuity check.
  • Outputs capable of 10A current for 1 full second to allow use with nearly any ematch or ematch substitute. Reverse polarity protection prevents spontaneous firing if battery is connected backwards.
  • Main chute deployment altitude is adjustable from 100 feet to 9,999 feet in 1 foot increments. 9 presets allow for quick change in the field.
  • No mach delay necessary for mach+ flights: Automatic MachLock assures proper operation with any flight.
  • Brownout protection will tolerate 3 second power loss in flight – no need for multiple batteries.
  • Precision sensor & 24 bit ADC yield superb 0.1% accuracy.
  • Built-in voltmeter reports battery voltage on powerup – no more guessing about battery condition.
  • Audio connector for optional amplified external beeper or LED.
  • Post flight locator siren aids in locating your rocket. Especially useful when combined with amplified external beeper.
  • Confusion-free individual terminal blocks – unreliable multiple wires per terminal are not necessary.
  • Pressure sensor is immune to false triggering from exposure to sunlight.
  • Highly resistant to false trigger from wind gusts; tested in 100+ MPH winds!
  • Selectable apogee delay for dual altimeter setups prevents overpressure from simultaneous charge firing.
  • Low power design runs for weeks on a standard 9V alkaline battery. Post-flight locator siren will run for months, giving you multiple “second chances” to find a lost rocket.
  • Telemetry output for real-time data in flight with your RF link.
  • Rugged SMD construction, stringent QC testing, and internal self-diagnostics assure uncompromising reliability.
  • Wide operating temperature range of -40F to +185F.
  • Measures just 2.75"L x 0.9"W x 0.5"H, fits 24mm tube, weighs just 0.45 oz.
  • Backed by full three year warranty.
